Ethan’s Newborn Session | Scottsdale, AZ

Emily and Matt met in 2011, when they both worked at the Gainey Ranch Golf Club. They will celebrate their second wedding anniversary next month, and who better to celebrate with than their brand new baby boy?! Read on to hear Ethan’s birth story…

“Ethan was due on July 31st, 2018. After a week of anxiously waiting, we were scheduled to be induced Monday, August 6th, at midnight. Shortly after checking in, we were set up in the triage room to begin the process. Contractions began around 2:00am and were about five minutes apart and I was two centimeters dilated. Contractions increased rapidly and we were moved to the labor and delivery room and I was given an epidural around 7:00am. At 9:30am, I was eight centimeters dilated and baby’s heart rate started to dip so they took me off of the pitocin. Things were progressing so quickly, the doctor thought we’d have the baby by lunch.

After a few more hours, things had begun to slow down and I was not dilating any further.

Around 4:30pm, our doctor decided a c-section would be the best route. We were planned to move to the operating room at 5:30pm. At this point, the epidural was wearing off and there was an hour of painful contractions before we could get into the operating room. This was happening during a shift change and the anesthesiologist was tied up in surgery and had to give three other epidurals before he could come to us.

At around 6:15pm we were taken to the OR. The doctors asked what kind of music we wanted playing in the background. Earlier during the day, I wanted something soothing so “coffee house” station was all that came to mind. Once playing, I decided it was too slow for the moment and requested the station be changed to UB40! After 10 minutes of reggae music including “Red Red Wine” and “The way you do the things you do” our Ethan Matthew was born at 6:29pm!

Matt was able to meet him first and watched him weigh in at 7 lbs 6 oz. He was 20.25 inches. As the doctors finished up, Matt brought him to me and touched our cheeks, and it was love at first sight.”

Emily and Matt, huge hugs and congratulations to you! Being first-time parents not easy. There are so many unknowns, but you are handling it perfectly and with so much grace. I love the way you love Ethan. He is so, incredibly blessed to have you on his team. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your family for a morning and capture these moments for you.

xoxo,
Brenna
