This session never should have happened. Let me tell you why.
Last March, I put out a maternity model call for a last minute-shoot in the desert wildflowers. I was looking for a mom around 28 weeks pregnant, able to wear a specific size, available on a specific day, to drive to a location pretty far away…basically I was looking for a unicorn.
But one of my best friends, Diana, sent my model call to her friend Ashley, and we were determined to make it work.
On paper, it never should have worked out. Ashley was “only” 23 weeks pregnant at the time (but expecting baby number three so her bump was perfect), her husband had accepted a new job with the Miami Dolphins and was already in Florida, she was getting their Scottsdale home ready to list for sale, she wasn’t sure if she could find a sitter for her two kids and was even contemplating bringing them with her (which I would have loved!), and didn’t know if she’d even have time to do her hair and makeup that day.
But, God had made sure that everything would align so we could spend a couple of hours together that Tuesday afternoon. She found a sitter, made an appointment to get her makeup done, styled her own gorgeous hair, and we met up in a Walgreens parking lot so she could hitch a ride with me to Timbuktu.
And boy, oh boy, was it all worth it! Not only did we snap these incredible images in the desert spring wildflowers, but our time together was food for the soul. It felt like we’d known each for years. Our conversations were deep, our hearts were vulnerable, and our eyes flowed with happy tears of the Lord’s goodness and grace.
Ashley, you are simply breathtaking. Thank you for taking a chance and putting in the effort to make this session work as seamlessly as it did. Your kind heart, gracious attitude, and dedication are so evident. The desert loves you and Florida is lucky to have you.
xoxo,
Brenna
