Featured Nursery of the Month: Lachlan

February’s featured nursery is this adorable light & airy design for baby boy Lachlan. His mama, Kinsley, shared her inspiration with me including this, this, and this. She didn’t hire a professional designer but she sought help and opinions from her sister. They did an incredible job with each little detail. I love how this room is bright and neutral with a hint of blue for her little man.

Did you have a particular budget in mind for your nursery?
“We wanted to keep it reasonable since we’d be changing things up in just a few years but I also wanted to invest in a few pieces I really loved and that I would want to continue using in the future.”

On which items did you splurge vs. save?
“We splurged on items that could transition to a toddler/big kid room or somewhere else in our house later on. We saved on items that would be outgrown in the near future. I decided (with the help of my sister) that I wanted the focal points to be the light fixture, mirror, and artwork which were bigger ticket items. I also layered in a lot of pillows and some fun accessories, like the hampers, and a custom portrait of our family dog. We saved on the crib and dresser by (luckily) finding them at the Pottery Barn outlet. I added some fun knobs to the dresser to make it feel more custom. I found the rug on a designer website but searched around and found the same one for a great price on another site. The glider was a hand me down from our two-year-old daughters nursery.”

Did you experience any challenges with your nursery design?
“At first , I had my heart set on beautiful wallpaper but our walls were heavily textured and we knew we’d be moving in the near future so I didn’t want to invest in something I couldn’t take with us.”

Kinsley, thank you for sharing Lachlan’s gorgeous nursery with us! I loved photographing your family of four in this beautiful space that you designed with love.

xoxo,
Brenna
