Trent’s posed newborn session was the perfect mix of beautiful and spirited. His mom, Alex, is a fellow photographer who specializes in weddings and senior portraits. I am always so honored when photographers trust and choose me to document their pregnancies and newborns! If you haven’t seen her family’s maternity session in the Arizona wildflowers, you have to check it out here! She and Jordan were expecting their third baby and waiting until birth to learn if it was a boy or girl. AH the suspense! With two girls already, they literally had no idea what to expect. (Spoiler alert: It’s a boy!) Keep scrolling to read his birth story and see the photos from Trent’s Lifestyle + Posed Newborn Session!
Trent’s Birth Story
”About two weeks before our third baby’s due date, my husband and I prayerfully decided we wanted to pursue a homebirth rather than a hospital birth. We were blessed to have a friend available and in the business as a midwife who made room for us in her schedule, and immediately began the process of taking over our prenatal care. Due to the short notice of this, there wasn’t much time to prepare. However, I have amazing friends also in the photography and doula space who were able to share resources and information with me in order to best prep for a homebirth.
We were so excited to welcome our third baby, Trent Douglas, born at home on June 23, 2022 at 1:31 am. It was such an amazing experience, surrounded by worship music, prayer, my husband, midwife and her birthing assistant! My labor was fast and furious, and even more motivating because Trent’s gender was a surprise, so we were eager to find out if we were adding a third little girl or having a boy!
Unfortunately, immediately after our successful home-birth, I experienced a serious complication that led us to the hospital, but I’m positive the prayers spoken over myself by my husband and midwife saved my life. It was still an incredible birthing experience and I’d do it all over again! We are very thankful for the care and love we received following the birth of Trent.”
Behind-the-Scenes Lifestyle and Posed Newborn Session
Trent’s lifestyle and posed newborn session is featured inside the Membership for Motherhood Photographers this month. I’m not going to lie, Trent’s big sisters had a really hard time with taking photos. My heart felt so deeply for Alex. She was doing such a great job staying calm and encouraging in the midst of the chaos. Things like this happen. That’s real life. If you’re a photographer and you’ve had hard sessions with kids, know that you’re not alone. If you’re a parent and your kids didn’t behave “perfectly” for your family session, know that you’re not alone.
Members will be able to watch how Alex and I handle her sweet and spirited little girls. I was able to capture some adorable “real life” moments that, hopefully, Alex and Jordan will be able to laugh at some day. Sometimes, it’s just best to give up the control and roll with the punches.
If you are not already in the Membership, we would love to have you join the BHP community today!
