If you couldn’t already tell, newborn sessions are my passion! I wouldn’t have niched down to offer just maternity and newborn sessions if they didn’t bring me joy. As your photographer, there are five things I want you to know before your newborn session with me.
It’s Okay if Your Baby is Fussy in Front of Me
Here’s the thing, when it comes to being a newborn photographer there are some things you have to be used to. From fussy little ones to spit up, I promise it’s a-okay for your newborn to be just that… a newborn!
One thing I do to help my clients is provide them with a prep guide prior to their newborn session. This guide includes tips and tricks on how to keep baby as happy as possible for the duration of our time together. From what time to feed them prior to our session to when to dress them, I love helping ease my clients minds with this prep guide.
If you’re a photographer reading this, you can purchase my exact prep guide that I share with my clients here.
It’s Okay if We Have to Pause for a Second
No matter how much you prep your little one for their session, babies are on their own schedule. If we need to pause so you can feed your baby or change a diaper, don’t feel like you’re inconveniencing me one bit! I build plenty of wiggle room into our session schedule for this reason. I even have a workflow that helps me flow from one pose to the next to help save time and get you back in your comfy clothes ASAP 😉
You Don’t Have to be a Pro at Baby Swaddling
Don’t worry about learning how to swaddle your baby perfectly before your session. I’ll handle all the swaddling and posing for you. And, you can rest easy as I stayed up to date on all the recommended safety posing for newborns. Your baby’s health and safety are always my top priority!
Your Older Kids Wanting to be “In the Action” Won’t Bother Me
If your newborn has a big brother(s) or big sister(s), they most likely will want some attention too! They may even be protective over their new sibling, which means they will want to know every little thing I’m doing. This is okay!
Know that including them in some photos makes them feel special, so I always recommend doing so. And, who knows, I may even let them take a picture or two!
The Days are Long, but the Years are Short
This quote isn’t one that I fully understood until I became a parent myself. And I cry every time I think of it! In just a blink of an eye, your newborn won’t be so little anymore. So while you’re lacking sleep or watching the same show for the hundredth time, remember you’ll miss these days. Soak up the baby snuggles. Soak up the little smiles and coo’s. And, don’t forget to document this sweet, sweet season of life.
